Susan E. Goff began a one-year tenure as Interim Rector at Holy Comforter in mid-June, 2025. She served as a Bishop in the Diocese of Virginia from 2012 through 2022, the last four years of which she was Ecclesiastical Authority (Bishop in Charge). She began ordained ministry way back in the1980s as chaplain of St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, then as chaplain of St. Catherine's School in Richmond. She was blessed to be Rector of Immanuel, Old Church, in Hanover County for eight years, then Rector of St. Christopher's, Springfield, for fifteen years before she was called to Diocesan ministry and elected Bishop. She was blessed as Bishop to represent The Episcopal Church among the dioceses of Central America, to be a Visiting Bishop in the Diocese of Liverpool, England, and to be one of the first women bishops to meet the Pope in Rome. When she is not at Holy Comforter, Susan can be found dancing hip hop at Richmond Urban Dance, teaching a seated dance fusion class at the YMCA, or in her small home studio where she writes and makes art. Susan is the author of The Desert Shall Rejoice: Psalms from the Wilderness of Breast Cancer, which was published by Bold Story Press in late 2024. She is delighted and grateful to walk this interim time with the people of Holy Comforter.
